Regarding Trichoshield

Researchers at MPOB have been studying and developing beneficial fungus, Trichoderma as a biological control agent against Ganoderma through careful testing and screening.

Trichoderma virens 159c was selected as the most effective strain against Ganoderma.

Working together with True Trichoderma Technology Sdn. Bhd., this strain has been formulated as Trichoshield, a biofungicide against Ganoderma.

Trichoshield contains endophytic Trichoderma spores that will colonize the palm’s roots and provide protection against Ganoderma and other fungal diseases. Trichoderma will also stimulate root growth leading to better yields.

Recommended application:

  1. Seed treatment: 20 g per seed
  2. Main nursery planting: 100 g per hole
  3. Field planting: 1 kg per hole
  4. Matured palm: Trichoshield mixed with compost at 1:3. Apply 5 kg around palm circle every 6 months

Oil palm is the major commodity crop for Malaysia. It is important to ensure its sustainability by improving yield as well as protecting the crop from pest and diseases.

The implementation of The Malaysian Oil Palm Industry Biosecurity Plan will be our first step in protecting and preventing invasive pests, diseases or weeds from entering our country, thus securing the future of the oil palm industry in Malaysia.
